Behind the Autumn Photography Image of Stepstone Falls in Rhode Island

Inspired by my recent photo trip to the White Mountains of New Hampshire a couple weeks back, I traveled to southern New England capturing the fall foliage colors in Rhode Island and Connecticut this past week. Fall colors were gorgeous and my first travel destination brought me to Stepstone Falls. It was a bit hard to find and driving down a winding dirt road I finally arrived at my desired destination. The flow of water was quite disappointing but I tried to make the best of it and worked with the small cascades and waterfalls at  hand. The set  of small falls must be pristine after heavy rain or in the spring and I will make sure to come back. In this image I positioned my Gitzo Tripod at the bottom of the last waterfall. In this image I decided to make the main focus the gorgeous hues of orange and yellow autumn colors beautifully reflected in the run-off water of the brook. I picked a Canon wide angle lens that allowed me to incorporate some of the fallen leaves in the foreground to lead into the photograph.

During post processing I removed image imperfections and dust spots, adjusted lighting, contrast and colors saturation before sharpening the final image of Stepstone Fall.

Good light and happy photo making!

Juergen
