I spent a couple of nights in Dennis on Cape Cod last week and was able to shoot during sunset on Mayflower Beach. There were a couple of photographers in their beach chairs patiently waiting for the light. When I passed by we chatted it up and we agreed that it wouldn't be much of a sunset tonight because the sun was about to disappear behind the clouds. Minutes after sunset twilight kicked in and I walked out into the Cape Cod Bay to a large boulder I spotted. The rock turned out to be a nice anchor for the viewer and an interesting feature in the foreground of the composition. A split density filter saturated the evening colors of the sky and helped to balance the darker foreground against the bright sunset sky.
Aperture was set to f/22 providing a shutter speed of 6 seconds at ISO100. During post processing I removed dust spots, minimally adjusted lighting, contrast and color saturation before sharpening the final photography image of Cape Cod Mayflower Beach.
Good light and happy photo making!
