Behind The Image of the Boston Odyssey

http://juergen-roth.artistwebsites.com/art/all/all/all/my+boston

Fan Pier is part of the Boston Harbor Walk which provides great views of the Boston skyline. On my recent visit to this photo hot spot I choose to capture a more initiate view of Boston. I there fore dissed the wide angle lens and equipped my camera with a 70-200mm telephoto zoom lens. The luxury Boston Harbor cruise ship Odyssey was welcoming passengers on board while getting ready for the sunset cruise. I zoomed in close to make this cruise ship the focus while the Boston Harbor Hotel with its arch and the rotunda provided the backdrop.

In this long exposure photography image the camera aperture was f/22 providing a 10 second shutter speed at ISO100. During post processing I removed unwanted dust spots, minimally adjusted lighting, contrast and color saturation before sharpening the fine image of Boston.

Composing a Perfect Photography Reflection

Do not follow the composition rule of thirds for mirror-like nature photography reflections. Instead position the line between object and reflection in the middle of the frame.

Boston Skyline Panorama Digital Art Photography

http://juergen-roth.artistwebsites.com/featured/all-lights-on-you-juergen-roth.html

In this very last digital art photography image I captured the Boston Skyline on a clear night with beautiful hues. During post processing I converted the picture into a stunning Boston Harbor reflection of downtown featuring the Custom Tower of Boston, Boston Harbor Hotel, New England Aquarium and the iconic Prudential Center to name a few. The panorama skyline photo was taken from East Boston which provides stellar views of the city in multiple locations.

Boston Calling

http://juergen-roth.artistwebsites.com/featured/boston-calling-juergen-roth.html

Boston Fan Pier has become a prime skyline photography destination over the last few years for many photographers. It's one of the best Boston photography locations and I love coming back here Photographing the Skyline. In this latest picture of Boston I composed around the familar Boston downtown cityscape landmarks and included the monumental, aerial sculpture "As If It Were Already There" created by Janet Echelman as an additional eye catcher.

This skyline photo of Boston was captured on one of the last days of summer on a beautiful, clear night at twilight. Aperture was set to f/11 providing a 25 second shutter speed at ISO100. Cleaning up the photography image is part of my routine post processing as well as adjusting lighting, contrast, color saturation before sharpening the final photograph of Boston Calling.

Chemical Tanker Sti Benicia at the Boston Harbor

http://juergen-roth.artistwebsites.com/featured/chemical-tanker-sti-benicia-juergen-roth.html

New England sunset photography showing the huge tanker STI BENICIA or The Vessel anchored next to the Mystic Generating Station, an oil power plant in Charlestown, Massachusetts. The massive tanker is always fascinating to watch entering the Boston Harbor escorted by Boston tug boats and the coast guard. The residential townhouses provide a great size clue. Ship and homes make a great juxtaposition where two things being seen or placed close together with contrasting effect.

Behind the Shot - Technique, Camera Settings and Circumstances of Sunset over Cape Cod Bay

Heading south of Boston on Route 3 brings you right to Cape Cod, a pristine summer get away and vacation destination for many New Englanders. I routinely make the 1 and a half hour drive down to the Cape to capture its beautiful coastal scenery at all times of the day and in all seasons. During my last photo trip this summer I returned to Paine's Beach and Landing to photograph an oyster farming setting with baskets, cases, and beds. This evening clear skies dominated and coincided with low tide and a full moon rising across Cape Cod Bay. The sun was already very low painting the beach in beautiful hues. I found Jellyfish on the beach that beautifully reflected the sunset light. The sun was about to sink below the horizon when I used the oyster farming equipment and poaching cases in this Cape Cod coastal living photography image as an interesting foreground feature. My Canon camera and lens was equipped with a split neutral density filter to overcome the high contrast between the darker foreground and the flaming sunset sky.

Aperture was f/22, resulting in a 1 second exposure time at ISO 100. During my routine post processing I removed dust spots, adjusted lighting, contrast and color saturation before sharpening the final Cape Cod Sunset photography image.

Behind the Image: Sunrise at Nauset Beach

http://juergen-roth.artistwebsites.com/featured/oh-what-a-beautiful-day-juergen-roth.html

Cape Cod is a popular summer destination. One fun summer activity is getting up in the wee hours of the day and head out to one of the many beautiful beaches The Cape has to offer. Nauset Beach is one of the best and stretches aong the Atlantic Ocean for miles. This morning we were greeted by a spectacular sunrise. The early morning sunlight painted the sky in stunning blue and orange hues while the sun beam beautifully reflected in the ocean waters and the the beach.

Aperture setting was f/5.6 providing a fast shutter speed of 1/500 of a secondat ISO100 to freeze the waters. During post processing I followed my routine workflow of cleaning up the image from unwanted dust spots, adjusting light, contrast and color saturation before sharpening the final image of "Oh What A Beautiful Day".

Cape Cod Nauset Beach Sunrise

During a recent photo trip to The Cape I experienced a beautiful sunrise at Nauset Beach in Orleans, MA. Lighting and weather conditions were perfect and I arrived well in advance of the sunrise on location. This allowed for a timely set up of tripod and camera gear while patiently awaiting the perfect Cape Cod sunrise moment. A split neutral density filter balanced the darker foreground of the dunes, beach grass and fence against the brighter sunrise sky. One of the best ways to start a day on the Cape and an amazing outdoor experience!

Aperture in this Cape Cod photography image was set to f/11 resulting in an exposure time of 2.5 seconds exposure time at ISO 100. During my routine post processing I removed dust spots, minimally adjusted lighting, contrast and color saturation before sharpening the final photography picture of Cape Cod Nauset Beach

Get Ready ~ Fall Foliage Photography Tips

www.rothgalleries.com

New England fall foliage is famous throughout the world. Leaf peepers and photographers alike are traveling to New England, at the northeast of the United States of America to experience a marvelous fall foliage specticle in Acadia National Park and State Parks of Maine, Rode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Vermont. This blog post compiles 11 foliage photography photo tips for better images. The photo help discusses how to capture mood and color of this most scenic season and get away with beautiful photography impressions and memories. The pictures and links with in this photo blog provide further tutorials that may be of interest ~ enjoy!

Photo Tip 1: Plan your New England leaf peeping or
fall foliage photography trip well ahead of time. There are many sites that provide the required information but The Foliage Network is one of the best and this website provides accurate foliage reports for color and leaf drop. In my experience "High Color" is the best time for glorious New England fall colors.

Photo Tip 2: Get out after a rain storm has passed to take advantage of beautiful lighting conditions when the sunlight breaks through and provides spectacular lighting condition. The air is clearest in the morning and after rain storms making for good times to strive for stunning and scenic autumn Landscape Photography compositions.

Photo Tip 3: Do not be fooled and discouraged by an overcast and rainy day weather forecast. Cloudy days provides beautiful and well balanced light that enhances details in darker areas. Rain drops on leaves make for excellent macro photography images and wet leaves turn the leaves on fire. Eliminate overcast sky by using your telephoto lens to achieve a tighter, more Intimate Landscape composition that is more beneficial and interesting.

Photo Tip 4: A Polarizing Filter is a good tool to boost color and balance the contrast in your photography image. The filter eliminates unwanted glare and reflections on wet leaves that may distract from the composition. Think of it as sunglasses for your camera. Overall, these filters increase color saturation, boost blue sky, add cloud contrast, control reflections and add neutral density to lengthen exposure times for blurred, impressionistic images.

Photo Tip 5: Low ISO settings like ISO 100 create higher quality pictures. Do not use your camera Auto ISO setting since at low light conditions it will adjust to higher ISO settings that produces more noise. Instead get into the habit of using your tripod even when sufficient light is available.

Photo Tip 6: Look for warm autumn hues and combine them with their complementary colors for high color contrast imagery; for example golden, yellow or orange foliage combined with a saturated blue sky. Red maple leaves work well with an evergreen background, all making for fantastic Autumn Photography Images.

Photo Tip 7: Find inspiration in waterfalls framed by beautiful foliage colors or get close with still tree leaves on the ground and on rocks in rushing creeks and brooks. Overcast and cloudy sky provides excellent conditions for such photo objects.

Photo Tip 8: Photograph during the morning or afternoon when light is at its best and leaves are sun-kissed by the beautiful sunlight thereby illuminating the colors of fall foliage.

Photo Tip 9: Capture beautiful autumn, razor sharp and Mirror-Like Reflections in ponds and lakes. Too windy for that ... no problem, create artistic impressionistic images within the tiny waves or with foliage in motion.

Photo Tip 10: Saturate and intensify colors by underexposing your photos slightly.

Photo Tip 11: Do not ditch November and December when leaves are on the ground and make for beautiful Macro Photography pictures. Visit your local sites to get in close and extend fall foliage photography season for a couple of months.

Interior Designer Quote of the Week by Eddie Ross

"I love a well traveled, eclectic house with furniture and Objects, layered one upon the other, that tell a story about who lives there, where they have been, and what they love. There is nothing worse than walking into someone's house that looks like they just called up a decorator." ~ Eddie Ross
