How to Maintain the Aesthetic Quality of your Photography Canvas Prints

http://juergen-roth.artistwebsites.com/news.html

In my first blog post of this series we discussed how to appropriately protect and clean an Aluminum Metal Print. This weeks topic is taking care of a canvas art print. Taking properly care of your treasured canvas art print is easy! Below are a few tips that will help you to appropriately maintain your fine art investment so you can fully enjoy and appreciate your Canvas Prints for many years to come:

  • Avoid direct sunlight as it breaks down the paper that the canvas print is printed on. It also may cause discoloration and fading. Use soft lighting such as artificial light to avoid discoloration and break down of the canvas print.
  • Keep moisture in form of humidity low in the area where you hang the artwork. Humidity easily may damage canvas prints as it may cause mold and mildew on the canvas print and eventually resulting in significant damage or total loss of your valuable Photography Art
  • Remove dust carefully and regularly using clean, soft, and dry material as it will negatively impact the aesthetic quality of your canvas print. Avoid using a rough and heavy cloth to wipe away dust. Avoid using chemical cleaners to get rid of dust.
  • Clean dirt spots on a canvas by lightly dampening a clean cloth with water and gently wiping the surface and sides of the canvas print.
  • Do not continuously wipe your Photography Canvas Print too hard in the same area as you may cause damage to the layers of protective coating and ink.
  • Avoid pressing down too hard on the canvas as you may leave an impression that remains permanent.
  • Do not place anything on top of the canvas and avoid laying your canvas print upside down with the artwork facing down. You risk damaging your Artworks and eventually loosing it.

Behind the Photo of the Boston USS Constitution

http://juergen-roth.artistwebsites.com/art/all/boston/all

We had a nice stretch of beautiful summer weather here in Boston that provided outdoor photographers with beautiful night light and twilight. I took advantage and went over to the Navy Yard in Charlestown, MA to cross off my bucket list one of my longtime image quests, the USS Constitution or Old Ironsides as some like to refer to this historic battleship. The USS Constitution is an impressive and beautiful wooden-hulled, 3-masted ship of the United States Navy.

Upon arrival the daily gun salute was in full preparation, Boston cruise ships like the Odyssey or the Spirit of Boston were waiting for the ceremony and it took only a few minutes when the cannon was fired. It still scares the heck out of me and makes me appreciate that I do not live in a war zone with my daily life being impacted by gun fires - wow!

Tripod in place and equipped with camera and wide angle lens I explored various angles and perspectives. I finally found a pleasing composition when the waiting game for the perfect light started. From this location I was able to capture the Old Ironsides with the Bunker Hill Monument to its left and in landscape format. In addition a vertical more intimate composition was achieved in vertical format. Later into that photo shoot while twilight was still going strong I heard fireworks going off behind the boat; I could not believe my luck and appreciated this extra twist of fate - what a welcoming delight and surprise! Talking once again about being in the right location at the right time.

During post processing I removed dust sports, minimally adjusted lighting, contrast and color saturation before sharpening the final images of "Boston Fireworks" and "USS Constitution with Bunker Hill Monument".

How to Take Care of Photography Prints: Aluminum Metal Prints

I am starting a new photo blog series where I provide some guidance on taking care of your Photography Art Investment. In this first installment I will be talking about the do's and don't's of taking care of your photography aluminum metal prints so you can enjoy it for many years to come. In the coming weeks and following blog posts we will further discuss canvas prints, photo prints and acrylic prints.

Photography aluminum prints bring artworks to life with their stylish lines and added depth. The high gloss of the metal print complements the rich colors of any photography image to produce stunning results. So how do you get the most out of those art prints:

  • Do not put an aluminum print face down on a hard surface as you may scratch its surface.
  • Do not drop it as the metal print may get dented.
  • Clean an aluminum print by gently wiping it using only a soft dry cloth.
  • Do not use Windex or other cleaning solvents. A cloth dampened with water may be used on occasion, but only when necessary.
  • Display prints with care. When resting on a surface, edges of a print may get worn over time and cause damage.
  • An aluminum print shows best when it is viewed at eye level using indirect or ambient light.
  • Aluminum prints look well in dim lit areas and are a perfect solution when decorating dark corners in any room where nothing else works.
  • Do not use a spotlight to enhance the viewing of a print, it bounces off the metal and usually washes out the image.

Behind the Photography Image: CRI Boathouse in Brighton, MA

http://juergen-roth.artistwebsites.com/featured/brighton-cri-juergen-roth.html

Mid May I made my way over to the Charles River in Brighton, Massachusetts. I was determined to knock off another images that I have on my photography bucket list for quite some time now; the Community Rowing boathouse. Trees were in spring green and the Boston weather forecast predicted a clear night and a beautiful sunset. It's a bit of a deserted area and may be well the reason why I have never taken that journey. Any how, upon arrival I made my way through some shrubs to the bank of the Charles River right opposite of the CRI boathouse. The boathouse was designed by Anmahian Winton Architects and in 2010, the modern architecture was awarded the Harleston Parker Medal for the single most beautiful building or other structure built in the metropolitan Boston area. The architects of Anmahian Winton have achieved this with an innovative and sustainable design of the boathouse and exploring abstract commonalities between rowing and architecture.

Twilight always provides amazing photo opportunities for photographers with unique lighting conditions that make for exceptional Skyline Photography pictures. No difference for Charles River boathouse photographs! With tripod in position and a composed picture it only turned out to be a waiting game. Not too long into the wait twilight arrived and I was able to achieve the photo graph I envisioned. While on location I also realized that the boathouse and its boat storage area suites itself for a wonderful Boston Panorama Photography opportunity. I therefore quickly changed gears and because knowing my equipment inside out I was able to take further advantage of the twilight and capture a few frames that I later stitched together in photoshop.

During post processing I removed dust sports, minimally adjusted lighting, contrast and color saturation before sharpening the final images of "Brighton Community Rowing" and "Brighton CRI".
