Another fabulous year for me and my photography adventures comes to an end. The year started out with a bang and a very special highlight and trip to Europe where we attended the weeding of my oldest nice in
Germany; we also traveled to Austria to see my sister in law and Holland
to meet friends – great times in Cologne, Linz and Amsterdam!
As every year there were plenty of photography road
trips to many sites in New England. Winter and Spring provided new photo opportunities
in and around Boston where I discovered and rediscovered old and new photo locations.
In addition I dedicated some time to new Flower Photography and created some
new floral abstract compositions and images.
Summer was definitely the time of the Cape with tons of Cape Cod photo tours. Most lasting memories ~ a visit at Marconi beach where I explored long exposure photography for serene seascape and coastal compositions. On this trip we also managed to find a sandbank with hundreds of seals arriving for the night – priceless!
During autumn I dedicated most of my times to nature photography in the White Mountains of New Hampshire and city skyline photography in Boston. Combined with a couple of autumn photo tours to Western Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire for covered bridge photography I gotta say it was a pretty busy and productive fall foliage season.
The final month of the year ended in a memorable photo trip to New York City where I took advantage of exceptional lighting and skyline photography opportunities. At the same time I attended a few sport events - a bit hectic but lots of fun; hockey with the NHL New York Islanders at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Colosseum, American football with the NFL NY Giants at MetLife stadium and last but not least an evening with the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden.
The ultimate 2014 story of the year regarding my photography was the recognition of my Cape Cod photography image Serene Cape Cod in the 2014 Landscape Photographer of the Year photo contest. This contest was judged by world famous photographers like Art Wolfe, Christopher Burkett, David Muench, Tim Fitzharris, Jim Patterson, Marc Muench, Brenda Tharp, Marc Adamus, Miriam Leuchter, Justin Reznick, Sarah Marino, Varina Patel, Charlie Waite and the picture was awarded Highly Commended by the judges in the final round. I remember getting the notification on Cape Cod and I was feast pumping, talking to myself and displaying a huge smile on my face at the Chatham Lighthouse parking area while other visitors were just looking at me and wondering what good news I must have received - there might be a youtube video out there ...
