Photo Tip - Using Color Contrast to our Photographic Advantage

www.RothGalleries.com

Using color contrast by implementing complimentary colors into a composition is one sure shot in improving our photography pictures and make them stand out more. High contrast is implied by placing 2 distinct colors that are very different from each other in the photograph. In example, the prime color might be red while the complimentary color is green; blue and orange or yellow and purple are other examples.

Next time you are out and about in the great outdoors shooting landscapes or macros look for complimentary colors in nature and compose your image around them – see and share what you get!

5 Fog Photo Tips for better Outdoor Photography

http://juergen-roth.artistwebsites.com/art/all/fog/all

Photo Tip #1: The camera meter is easily tricked by fog. Metering without compensation will underexpose the fog photography picture. Therefore we have to adjust the exposure. A good ballpark number is +1 stop and exposure bracket at ½ or 1/3 stops.

http://juergen-roth.artistwebsites.com/
Photo Tip #2: The autofocus system of your camera has a hard time finding a focus point in foggy conditions. Switch to manual focus instead and use the magnifying feature, properly adjusting the focus and pinpoint it on the spot.

Photo Tip #3: Incorporating foreground features in our compositions will make for better and more interesting photography images. Ensure your elements in front of your lens are in focus; those elements will become your main subjects while the rest of the composition disappears into the foggy scenery.

Photo Tip #4: Avoid camera shake by using a tripod. One also might increase the ISO setting to increase shutter speeds for a better chance of a quality image when hand-holding the camera.

Photo Tip #5: Routinely check your lens for water droplets or condensation – keep the gear dry; those droplets do not make for a better photograph.

Photo Tip Wednesday - Floral Photography Tips

Flower Photo Tip: Use dark backdrops in your photo studio or on location to isolate the colorful blossom and stir all attention to it. A black background makes for exceptional flower fine art photography allowing floral blossoms to pop in a vibrant color burst in front of the viewer.

Martha's Vineyard Photography Highlights not to be Missed

Martha’s Vineyard is a 45 minute ferry ride from Woods Whole on Cape Cod. It’s a New England gem of an island for summer vacationers. For photographers it provides ample opportunities to be discovered and photographed throughout the year. The best times to visit are spring, summer and fall. In terms of camera gear one will need a wide angle lens for scenic photography images; a long telezoom lens for more intimate landscape, floral and wildlife photographs. If you like to photograph flowers or critters up close don’t forget to pack your macro lens. A solid tripod for High Quality Photography images, Split ND Filter and a Polarizing Filter round up the gear essentials for a successful photo tour to the Vineyards. In addition a neutral density filter reducing the light by 8 or 10 stops will allow for really long exposures photography with Silky Water Effects.

Photography highlights on Martha’s Vineyards are the Gingerbread Houses where you step back in time. The colorful Victorian houses make for excellent photos and are located in Oak Buff. Edgartown offers a quaint harbor and the picturesque town lures visitors with great shopping and restaurants. Edgartown lighthouse is a short walk from the harbor in a beautiful setting. Gay Head Light above the 150 foot tall Clay Cliffs of Aquinnah is one of the most scenic Lighthouses of New England. Sunset will yield your best photo results.
