Behind the Photography Image of the Moth Orchid
Taking the Orchid Flower Photo:
A couple weeks back I had the opportunity photographing orchids in my studio. The natural morning light was beautiful as I experience it usually and I positioned the orchid for most dramatic Back Lighting.
Equipped with a Canon 100mm f/2.8 macro lens I started to compose various images before creating this intimate close up of the orchid blossom. Orchids and in particular a single orchid always make for great flower photography; forms, shapes and colors are an endless array of inspiration.
The aperture in this floral image was f/32 for great Depth of Field, resulting in a long exposure time of 15 seconds at ISO100. While photographing flowers I like to use a reflector to direct light into the blossom and lightning up the darker areas within the floral; no difference for this photograph.

Post Processing:
During my routine digital post processing workflow I
removed dust spots and imperfections, minimally adjusted
lighting, contrast and color saturation before sharpening the final
flower photography image "Moth Orchid".
Good light and happy photo making!

Behind the New England Photo Image: Rhode Island Fall Foliage Photography
Taking the Photo:
Last year, the fall foliage arrived very late into the season and one of my last photo tours let me to Rhode Island Stepstone Falls. On my way to southern New England I came across this little pond. Fall colors were peaking, fog was rising from the waters and the early sunlight was painting the autumn foliage in beautiful hues. There was no way I would have passed on this scenic photography opportunity. I pulled over, scouted the pond for an attractive foreground that provides depth to the Nature Photography image and then patiently waited for the sun to hit the tress at the right angle. Equipped with a Canon Wide Angle Lens and camera, I adjusted the split density filter to balance the darker foreground with the bright autumn colors and sky. Once the lighting and moment was right I capture my vision.
Post Processing:
I like to keep the post processing to a minimum and always strive to capture the best possible Image on Location. My routine post processing work flow is therefore very limited and allows me to head out more often to enjoy the outdoors photographing nature. For this picture I removed dust spots and imperfections, minimally adjusted
lighting, contrast and color saturation before sharpening the final
autumn photography image "Rhode Island Morning Bliss".
Good light and happy photo making!

Patriots Football Sport Photography at Gillette Stadium
A few weeks back I had another chance to photograph the New England Patriots at the impressive Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. Being there for a regular season game is incredible fun but photographing the NFL football team and Patriots fans makes it so much sweeter. This time I focused on capturing a panorama photography images of the arena that were missing from my Sport Photography galleries. Go Pats!

Behind the Cape Ann Seascape Photography Image Shades of Blue
Taking the Photograph:
Last year, late in December I made the 45 minute journey from Brookline to Manchester by the Sea on Cape Ann. This quaint New England fishing town has one of the most beautiful beaches in Massachusetts. The beach is called Singing Beach because of it squeaky noise it makes when one walks the sand. Arriving in the wee hours just minutes before sunrise allowed me to immediately make my way over to cliff and the beach area where the rocks are facing the daily surf. I imagined having the boulders incorporated as an attractive foreground feature that provides scale and interest to the viewer. I started photographing the sunrise a little bit earlier before the predicted sunrise time to capture the sun just seconds after passing the horizon, exactly how I imagined to convey the ultimate outdoor experience: quietude, beauty and sheer joy.
Post Processing:
During my routine process post processing work flow I first cleaned up the image from dust spots and imperfections. I then minimally adjusted lighting, contrast and color saturation before sharpening the final seascape photography image "Shades of Blue".
Good light and happy photo making!
