Behind the Image: Night of Light - Boston Fine Art Photography

Photographing Boston is always rewarding and Memorial Drive in Cambridge provides some of the best Boston city views and photography locations.  During my last photo adventure I set up near the luxury Sonesta Hotel at sunset and photographed the iconic Back Bay skyline with its famous landmarks well into the night. Night of Light was taken shortly after the last sunlight had disappeared below the horizon. The historic Prudential Center with the Back Bay brownstone houses were illuminated in beautiful orange hues. The long exposure time captured the MBTA Boston Red Line subway train as a beautiful light beam in red and white while crossing the Longfellow Bridge. The historic bridge spans the Charles River connecting Boston to Cambridge and Somerville and always makes for an interesting foreground feature.

During post processing of "Night of Light" I removed dust spots, minimally adjusted lighting, contrast and color saturation before sharpening the final image in Photoshop. Apertures in this Boston long exposure photography image was f/11, providing a 10 second shutter speed at ISO200.

Good light and happy photo making!

Juergen
