Behind the Photography Image: Asticou Azalea Garden in Northeast Harbor, Maine
On my latest photo tour to Acadia National Park I passed by Asticou Azalea Garden in Northeast Harbor, Maine on my way back home from an amazing sunrise photography shoot. The sun was still low and painting the flowering azaleas in beautiful first light and hues. Recognizing an opportunity I immediately stopped to set up and capture this beautiful garden with its spring flowers in full bloom. Calm waters made for a great reflection of the clouds in the sky. Early morning is one of my favorite times as I also don't have to worry about crowds walking into the frame; indeed I had this relaxing oasis all for myself.
Equipped with a graduate neutral density filter I was able to balance the contrast between the darker foregrounds and the brighter sky and provide a bit more punch.
An aperture at f/22 provided a 1/2 second exposure time at
ISO100. During my routine post processing workflow I removed dust spots,
minimally adjusted lighting, color saturation and contrast before sharpening
the final image of "Asticou Azalea Garden".

Work the location: Rarely do we photographers capture our vision with one snap of the shutter. For best photography image results, experiment with different lenses, angles and perspectives, exposure settings such as the aperture to control Depth of Field, filters, lighting at different times of the day to only name a few.

New Acadia National Park Fine Art Photography
On my latest photo adventure trip to Maine Acadia National Park I was rewarded with exceptional light at sunrise and sunset. In addition I was able to find new and exiting photo locations throughout this National Park and I can't wait to go back. Sunrise Photography at Maine Acadia National Park
On my recent trip to Acadia National Park I scouted a new
area and was surprised to find an incredible overlook and area that I have
never seen up close. I remember driving along the park loop road in Acadia
wondering how to get to the area but never expected to actually find access.
Well, I was wrong and after scouting out the photographic potential one
afternoon, I went back the very next morning at sunrise to pursue some long
exposure photography images. I was rewarded with spectacular views and pristine
light. In one of the first images I used evergreen trees as silhouettes and
size clues in front of the picturesque New England seacoast scenery. The sun
was peeking through the clouds illuminating the trees and painting the coastal
scene in beautiful hues and colors. A grad neutral density filter allowed to
overcome the strong contrast between the dark foreground and the bright sky.
Aperture was f/22 providing a 1 second exposure time at
ISO100. During post processing I leveled the horizon, removed dust spots,
minimally adjusted lighting, color saturation and contrast before sharpening
the final image of "Light Surge".
