Creative Photo Adventure: Boston Financial Waterfront District and Boston Harbor Skyline Photography

Fan Pier was always one of my favorite photo locations. The views of the Boston Harbor and the Financial Waterfront District skyline is just one of the best and most exiting The Hub has to offer. It was no difference on my very last visit at this prime skyline photography location. I arrived well before sunset because the weather forecast predicted partial cloudy skies and I was after a photograph that included some sky fire. At sunset the sky turned magical. The clouds were moving fast into the frame from the far upper right but the beautiful red and orange hues were fading slowly but surely. Luckily I was well prepared, equipped and ready to go. A ND filter provided a longer exposure time that created motion blur in the clouds and the harbor water. A split density ND filter balanced the light between the darker foreground and the brighter sunset sky. Aperture was set at f/16 making for a 25 seconds exposure at ISO100. The wide-angle was at 19mm. During my routing digital photography post processing steps I adjusted lighting, contrast, color saturation and removed image imperfections before sharpening the final image of Boston Harbor and Financial Waterfront District.

Creative Photo Adventures: "Atlantic Glow" - Maine Seascape Photography

Maine Acadia National Park Photos

Sunrise and sunset are some of my favorite times to explore nature with my camera. The bold colors in the skies combined with a picturesque landscape or beautiful seascape scenery makes for great creative adventures. I captured this sea-view at an undisclosed area in Maine Acadia National Park during the wee hours of the day. I arrived on time before the magic unfolded allowing for setting up at a location that I scouted the day before. The wide-angle lens setting was at 24mm. The aperture for this nature photography image was adjusted to f/22 providing a 1 second exposure time at ISO100. A split neutral density filter balances the darker foreground against the super bright sunrise light. In post I brought back the shadows and tones downed the highlights, adjusted brightness, contrast and saturation before removing dust spots and imperfections. In the final step I sharpened the seascape photo of Atlantic Dawn.

Creative Photo Adventures: Boston Full Worm Moon Skyline Photography

Boston moon rise photography image

Last Sunday night, I experienced a full worm moon rise over Boston and its iconic skyline. I adventured out despite the freezing temperatures, bracing the cold and envisioning a perfect evening to capture this Astronomical Phenomena. Weather forecast called for clear skies and moonrise was predicted for 7pm, only minutes after sunset. I figured the moon would become visible during twilight and make for a beautiful Boston skyline photography composition addition. Based on my research and a bit of scouting I picked the Mass Avenue Bridge as my photo location and best option to capture my vision. Mother Nature didn't let me down. At the blue hour the full moon rose between the office building and across downtown Boston, perfectly to the right of the newly constructed Millennium Tower. In this second photograph I chose a wider view to include the familiar Prudential Center and the John Hancock Tower. The moon appears much smaller due to the wider lens. The moonlight and skyline was beautifully reflected in the Boston Charles River in this Long Exposure Photography image.

Story Behind the Photography Image of Wellesley Hills Isaac Sprague Memorial Tower

Wellesley Hills Isaac Sprague Memorial Tower

Since we moved metro west and a bit further away from Boston I have been exploring and enjoying my new surroundings in Natick, MA. The other night I went to Elm Park which is also known to locals as the clocktower park. The park is home to the beautiful Isaac Sprague Memorial Tower. The tower is a local historic landmark that is on the daily travels of thousands of drivers commuting in and out of the area on Route 9 or Route 16. I stopped by the other night to finally capture this iconic architecture at the blue hour; believe it or not but photographing this historic tower was on my bucket list for about a year. Equipped with a Canon Wide-Angle Lens I started exploring the structure from different perspectives. I took multiple long exposures but the first one turned out to be the best because it shows a couple of the clocks and the lighting was its most exquisite. Shutter speed was 10 seconds at an aperture setting of f/16 and an ISO200 setting.

During post processing I opened up shadows and turned down highlights and whites, adjusted contrast and color saturation before removing dust spots and sharpening the final image of Wellesley Hills Isaac Sprague Memorial Tower.

New Boston Sunset and Night Photography on Tap This Morning

Last week I explored a new location that I scouted month back. Instead of going to one of my usually Boston Photography hot spots I stuck to the plan and went to this new spot.

I think I couldn't have picked a better day; the light at sunset and twilight was spectacular. The location awards with a couple of interesting views of familiar Boston landmarks:

Boston State Street Corporation and Millennium Tower
Boston night photography

John Hancock Tower
Boston sunset photos
