Abstract Flower Photography Tip

Be creative and create Abstract Flower Photography compositions ~ explore different, unusual perspectives, e.g. low camera angles, zooming in real close with a macro lens, or use a very shallow Depth of Field.

Behind the Image: Boston Tobin Bridge

http://juergen-roth.artistwebsites.com/featured/boston-tobin-bridge-juergen-roth.html

I regularly visit East Boston to satisfy my need for Boston Skyline Photography at twilight. I truly love when the citylights and twilight merge as one and an indescribable magic unfolds. This time I went to a photo location that provides ample views of downtown and the Boston harbor but as I was a bit early I decided to check out the potential of that particular spot. Turns out it did not let me down. The light was gorgeous and I was able to add another Boston Skyline Panorama Photography picture to my gallery. After I captured the 10 photographs to be stitched in the pano I turned around and realized the potential for a second memorial shot. For years I am on the lookout for a decent picture of the Tobin Bridge and I think I finally arrived. The Maurice J. Tobin Memorial Bridge or Mystic River Bridge is a cantilever truss bridge that spans more than two miles from Charlestown to Chelsea over the Mystic River in Massachusetts. The bridge is the largest in New England and a landmark structure. The mooring poles and wall came in really handy and I used them as a strong foreground feature. A long exposure 20 seconds created a velvety water effect that I love. During post processing I removed dust spots, minimally adjusted lighting, contrast and color saturation before sharpening the final image of the Boston Tobin Bridge.

Photography Business Tip #1

Don't expect Selling Photographs without doing marketing and hard work. Little or no marketing of photography art will lead to sporadic artwork sales; clever art marketing comes with long hours and ultimately leads to constant sales records and increasing art sales.

Waterfall Photography Tips

Waterfalls are best photographed with a long shutter speed setting. Slow shutter speeds will transform the falling water into a beautiful silky carpet of water; actually translating the flow and energy within a 2-dimensional picture. Good shutter speeds for Silky Water Effects and particular for waterfalls are 1/2 to 1/15 of a second.

Experiment with your camera exposure settings like aperture, exposure times, ISO settings for optimal effects. Neutral density filter or polarizing filter extends exposure times and have other beneficial effects on your final Waterfall Photography Images.

When is the Best Time to Photograph Seascapes?

www.RothGalleries.com

The best times for seascape photography are early morning and late afternoon; no revelation. The angle of the sun provides us with ample lighting that becomes soft and provides a golden glow always painting a seascape beautifully in warm hues. Shadows become soft and long, greatly enhancing a composition. Be on location 30 to 45 minutes before sunrise or stay for the extra minutes after sunset to discover the magical twilight hours - those short minutes provide us photographers with the best and most beautiful lighting. Bring a split neutral density filter to overcome high contrast between foreground and a brighter sky. A neutral density filter will extend exposure times and render waves and incoming tide into silky water movement.

10 Secrets to Higher Quality Photography Art

http://juergen-roth.artistwebsites.com/art/all/flower+fine+art/all

Photo Tip #1: Use a steady Tripod with a solid Tripod Head or use other supporting gear to minimize camera shake and subsequent picture blurriness.

Photo Tip #2: Utilize a remote or cable release when using a tripod. If none handy use at least the camera self-timer.

Photo Tip #3: Keep your elbows close to your chest to support camera stability when shooting handheld.

Photo Tip #4: Don't use cheap Photo Filters that may compromise the sharpness of your image.

http://juergen-roth.artistwebsites.com/art/all/boston/all

Photo Tip #5: Shoot in continuous mode. Alternatively take lots of photos when conditions are difficult and windy.

Photo Tip #6: Change to manual focus instead of auto-focus when feasible. This allows you to pin point sharpness on the most critical element of your Photo Subject.

Photo Tip #7: Choose correct camera aperture and shutter speed settings. Increase your ISO setting shutter speed is too slow, if needed.

http://juergen-roth.artistwebsites.com/art/all/new+england/all

Photo Tip #8: Find your sharp aperture lens f-stop setting. Do some test shots to determine this setting or research on sites like Digital Photography Review.

Photo Tip #9: Carefully use your Noise Reduction software since it may "fix" small details in your pictures.

Photo Tip #10: Sharpen your images in the end of your Digital Post Processing work-flow.

Bigger, better, greater Boston Photography

Earlier this week I made my way out to one of the most popular Boston Skyline Photography locations. I regularly visit this site to shoot the beautiful architecture of Boston as it rises along the harbor. I love being here when the City Night Lights merge with the twilight shortly after sunset and become one. This time I decided to capture the cityscape in a stunning sunrise panoramic. I arrived on time at dusk to set up and do some test shots prior to getting serious. Equipping my Canon camera with a 70-200 mm telephoto lens was an easy choice as it provides brilliant and sharp photos. A tripod provided the steady support of the photography gear and allowed for consistent panning across the skyline. Now it was a waiting game and once the sun crossed the horizon painting downtown in warm hues I started capturing the harbor city scenery in multiple segments at about a 135 mm focal lens. The final Boston Skyline Panorama photograph is comprised of 7 images and was stitched in photoshop. During the final post processing step I removed dust spots, cropped the panoramic picture to a 4:1 ratio, minimally adjusted lighting, contrast and color saturation before sharpening the final image, “Hub of the World”.

City Skyline Night Photography Tips

Use medium to small apertures (large f-stop numbers like f/8 to f/11 or higher) to obtain sufficient depth of field and increased image quality. Be aware that large f-stop settings create beautiful star effects on street or building lights while large apertures (small f-stop numbers like F/5.6) minimizes that effect.

Flower Photography Tips

Use a reflector to direct light towards a shaded area and elements of a flower when it is facing away from a light source. Adjusting the reflector and exploring the impact of the lighting on the flower is an inspiring learning experience; persistence and patients are key as one has to operate the reflector carefully to study its maximum impact on our Flower Photography.

What do you call art?

“Art is what we call...the thing an artist does. It's not the medium or the oil or the price or whether it hangs on a wall or you eat it. What matters, what makes it art, is that the person who made it overcame the resistance, ignored the voice of doubt and made something worth making; Something risky, something human. Art is not in the ... eye of the beholder. It's in the soul of the artist.” ~ Set Godin
